June 24th MM meeting - Red Lobster 7PM
« on: February 17, 2013, 12:42:11 PM »
Get ready for a new year and lots of excitement in our club!  The Mountain Miatas will be trying out a new meeting venue for the June meeting on Monday, June 24th. Board meeting convenes at 5:30, Miata talk will be in the parking lot at 6:30, with the general membership starting at 7:00.  We will be at the Red Lobster Restaurant, located at  8040 Kingston Pike  Knoxville, Tennessee 37919.  Phone: (865) 693-4651. Other details and their menu may be viewed at www.redlobster.com.  They have a varied menu that includes vegetarian, poultry, beef and pork options, along with a full bar.  And let's not forget those wonderful cheddar biscuits and Boston Tea.

As has been shared before, when we as a club reach the size we are now, meeting venues are very limited in our tri-county area.  Beginning with this recommendation from new board member Melanie Norris and her husband, Larry, we will start out this year in searching for a site that appeals to the majority of the people attending the meetings and accommodates our list of specifications. Anyone with suggestions is encouraged to contact me and share the information to be looked into.  We have a couple of other places to try and will keep the membership posted as to changes in a timely manner.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the meeting.  Our program will handle the annual club survey, the Dream Run Contest and our 4th anniversary as Mountain Miatas of East Tennessee.  More information will be forthcoming.  We have a lot going on and don't want anyone to miss out.  Check the forum and the calendar frequently for upcoming events.

See you on the roads!

Georgiana,

I know appropriate meeting and food locations are not easy to find, and you are doing a great job.
However, I though I would add one more to your list or potential candidates.

Peerless
320 North Peters Road Knoxville, TN

http://www.peerlesseatout.com/

We had an American Nuclear Society (ANS) meeting there last month, and I realized they have a number of "banquet rooms" in the back where we had our meeting.

I checked the website, and there is no room charge, but there is a $19 per person minimum.  Seems like we have been meeting this minimum during recent events.  Also, the bill is on one check.  For ANS meetings, we have a fixed price that is collected when one enters, and then the organziation pays the check.
This is a relatively convenient location, at Peters Road and Cedar Bluff.  And the banquet room provides nice separation from the rest of the patrons.  Perhaps you have already investigated Peerless, but this name did not have a strong name recognition with me.  They have been in Johnson City for 75 years, and opened at this location in approximately 2006.  So, as you can see, I don't keep exactly current on "new" restaurant openings, as Peerless has been at this location for at least 7 years.
See ya'll at Red Lobster tonight and looking forward to the Dream Run selection.

Larry and I were just at Naples on Saturday, and they also have a banquet room, at no charge that hold 50 people.  Talked to the owner today and found out some things.  There must be at least 25 at each meeting, or there would be a $25.00 fee for the room.  They would have a limited menu of three items, as their kitchen is not big enough to handle so many entrees for the banquet room...and the regular dining room.  Or...they have a banquet deal that would include:  Salad, non alcoholic drink and dessert for $5.00...but the big BUT here is that everybody in the room would have to order it.  I don't think that would work for everybody.  They do have a bar, and it's a really nice banquet room.  It might be something that the club could talk about if anybody's interested.  I agree with Sean that we need to try to keep the cost at a reasonable rate for all involved.

Also, when I first talked to the manager at the Red Lobster, they told me that they would include hamburgers on the menu (which are usually only on the lunch menu) for us on our Monday nights.  I don't know if this was brought up last month or not.
